Expanding Worship in Cuba
October 15, 2024
It all started when a former LaGrave minister retrieved a letter out of the trash in 1957. If you were at last Sunday’s evening service and dinner afterwards, you found that out and more:
- how delicious authentic Cuban food and drink is;
- the church in Cuba has had angels at their sides;
- most Cubans subsist on $20.00 a month; and
- our Cuba Committee is launching an exciting new project!
What is this exciting new project?
The Henry Beets Cuba Committee, along with Hillside CRC, will be providing financial support to the Cuban Christian Reformed Church (CCRC) for the purpose of purchasing one or more house churches. The hope to purchase houses that can be used as worship places in order to allow for church membership to expand, and pastors a place to live.
Some details of the project include:
- Government Restrictions: The Cuban government allows the CCRC churches to exist, but does not allow new church construction, so any growth must be accommodated by purchasing existing buildings.
- A Unique opportunity: Property values in Cuba have been falling, and this affords a unique opportunity to purchase property at reduced prices – properties typically range from $50,000 to $70,000 USD, but will most likely require some renovations prior to being occupied.
- Our Goal: An initial goal of $125,000 has been set to purchase two buildings.
- A Strong Commitment: The committee is kicking off the funding effort; each of our committee members has made a pledge toward this goal.
What Can You do to Help?
We invite you to join us in this effort! Here’s how:
- Pray: Praying for finding the right houses, the right locations, and all the funding needed.
- Donate:

- Pledges can be made over a two-year period if desired.
- Donations are tax deductible.
- Check donations should specify “Cuba House Church Purchases” so they are properly recorded and sent to Amy Hermen, LaGrave’s Administrative Manager.
