Reaching Out…Being Involved in Various Ministries

Crossroads Bible Lessons
Members grade Bible lessons and write letters of encouragement to prisoners around the country.

Doorstep Ministry
Members care for the immediate needs and pray for the spiritual needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ during times of crisis, through the Minister of Outreach.

God’s Kitchen
Members serve meals to our downtown neighbors the third Monday of each month.

Inner City Christian Federation
Members supply backpacks and supplies for children returning to school. Members also build houses for needy neighborhood people.

Kids Hope USA
Members gifted with a heart for children are involved as tutors and prayer-partners with elementary students at Congress School. Many of these children are involved in Scouts and Gems. Some of their parents are involved in the Alpha program.

Mel Trotter Ministries
Members supply tote bags filled with personal hygiene articles for distribution to the homeless and needy.

Jesus said, “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…I was in prison and you visited me. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:35-36 NRSV

Reaching Out…Partnering with Organizations

Provides opportunity for ministry by linking congregation, individual and community resources with human needs to help eliminate poverty in Kent County.

Criminal Justice Chaplaincy
The ministry came from a vision that Biblical, restorative justice requires reconciliation to victims and perpetrators of crime, through Christ’s love and compassion.

This ministry provides a safe haven for those living in the Heartside area of Grand Rapids.

Dwelling Place
This ministry provides affordable housing and supportive services to revitalize neighborhoods.

This ecumenical organization promotes Christian unity, interreligious cooperation and the well-being of the community.

Guiding Light Mission
Alongside churches and other agencies Guiding Light Mission seeks to meet the multiple needs of a particular segment of the urban population--the homeless and disadvantaged.

Heartside Ministry
Sharing faith, hope and life amidst homelessness and poverty…transforming our community.

Hope Network
Serves to enhance the dignity and independence of persons who have disabilities and/or disadvantages.

House of Prayer
This home is designed for women stepping out of treatment centers, jails or prisons. Women learn basic skills for their recovery.

Henry Lew serves as chaplain to students in the downtown colleges and universities.

Monroe Community Church
This church in downtown Grand Rapids seeks to help young, urban professionals find and experience God's transforming power in their hearts and lives.

Pathfinder Resources
Provides a treatment program for men who have chemical dependency problems.

Volunteers in Service (VIS)
Identifies hurting people in the Grand Rapids area, connects them to networks of caring churches and equips local churches to love their neighbors.
