"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music." —Psalm 98:4
LaGrave's handbell program currently includes two choirs and offers handbell ringing opportunities for both children and adults. Our handbell program is fully equipped with its own rehearsal room, a full set of 5-octave Malmark bells and hand chimes.
Bells Jubilate is the handbell choir for ringers who are high school aged and older. This choir rings music up to five octaves and rehearses Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The choir participates in worship approximately once each month. The choir is directed by Kurt Stroh.
Bells Gloria is the handbell choir for children in grades three through six. The director -- Howard Slenk -- is professor emeritus from Calvin College. He has extensive experience in leading vocal and handbell choirs. Music reading is not a prerequisite for Bells Gloria, but previous musical study is helpful. This handbell choir rehearses Sunday afternoons from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. September through May. The choir participates in worship approximately three to four times a year.
